Bed Bugs wander. The female bed bug will move throughout the home laying eggs as they go. They prefer to lay eggs in cracks and on surfaces that are wood, cloth, paper or painted surfaces.
Bagging up clothing, bedding and curtains WITHOUT washing and/or drying on high heat WILL PROTECT the bed bugs and their eggs that are there.
WASHABLE BEDDING, CLOTHING AND CURTAINS:
Put clothing and bedding in plastic bags to take to the laundry. The bags will keep any bed bugs or their eggs from spreading through the building as the clothes are transported.
Wash bedding and clothing in hot water and dry at high heat for at least 30 minutes.
After the clothing is heated in the dryer, fold and put them into a clean plastic bag and seal it tightly. Discard the old plastic bags directly to the dumpster or garbage cans outside. Do not reuse the old bags.
NON-WASHABLE CLOTHING AND CURTAINS:
Put non-washable clothing and bedding in plastic bags to take to the laundry. The bags will keep any bed bugs or their eggs from spreading through the building as the clothes are transported.
Clothing that cannot be washed (woolens, coats, blankets, etc) should be placed dry into a dryer and tumbled on high heat for at least 30 minutes.
After the clothing is heated in the dryer, fold and put them into a cleanplastic bag and seal it tightly. Discard the old plastic bags directly to the dumpster or garbage cans outside.
Non-washable clothing that needs to be dry-cleaned can be sent to a professional dry-cleaner after they have been heated in the dryer at high heat for at least 30 minutes.
PILLOWS, PLUSH TOYS, STUFFED ANIMALS:
